The work of the Community Research Alliance (CRA) is aided by the assistance of interns to fulfill its mission. CRA interns have the opportunity to work on a variety of tasks as well as learning about the ways in which affiliate organizations and the Institute for Community Research practice public health research and advocacy. To the greatest extent possible, efforts will be made to find a match between interns’ interests and CRA work.
Examples of CRA Intern responsibilities are:
- Monitoring health related policies and community health needs and trends
- Community outreach to new CRA affiliated organizations
- Attending meetings with community organizations
- Assisting with coordination of community events
- Facilitating social media outreach (Facebook, email blasts)
- Contributing to research, policy or health promotion strategies of one or more CRA related agencies
CRA affiliates explore various areas of health, striving to attain health equity for vulnerable populations. Interns have the opportunity to research and health promotion efforts related to central CRA concerns or projects affiliated organizations. Some examples include:
- Substance Use
- Community Health (dental, primary care, reproductive health)
- Nutrition
- Environmental
- Food Insecurity
The Alliance welcomes undergraduate or graduate interns pursuing degrees in social work, public health or applied social sciences (e.g. sociology, anthropology, geography, history).
Internships are a minimum of 10 hours a week. During the spring and fall semesters, interns will be expected to work from 10 to 20 hours a week for 10-12 weeks. Preference will be given to students who are seeking a two-semester placement. Summer internships are designed on a case by case basis.
All internships are unpaid.
